The Mbeubeuss landfill is a 115-hectare city within a city. Located on the outskirts of Dakar, Senegal’s capital, in the Malika district, it is one of the largest landfills in Africa. It receives nearly 4,000 tons of different types of garbage every day, and thousands of workers collect, sort and process it on site. The goal of the project was to show them with dignity and respect for their work.

The exceptionally dry summer of 2023 caused the shoreline of Lake Svitajno to recede by up to a dozen meters in some places. After an exceptionally heavy winter of precipitation, the water table rose by a few centimeters, failing to compensate for the losses of previous years.
Grand Press Photo
– National Competition of Reporters’ Photography
Organized by “Press” and the Grand Press Foundation, the National Competition of Reporters’ Photography Grand Press Photo is Poland’s most prestigious environmental competition for professional photojournalists working in press, Internet editorial offices, photo agencies and freelancers.
The contestants’ works are judged by world-renowned professionals. The chairman of the jury is an annual World Press Photo winner, and the jury members are recognized photojournalists and photo editors from Poland and abroad.
Photographs for the competition can be submitted both in the category of single photos and photo essays.
In the group of single photos, the categories established are: Current Events, Climate, Responsibility, People, Culture, Hobby, Sports, Own Vision.
Photo essays can be submitted in the categories: Current Events, Climate, Responsibility, People.
In 2015, additional categories were established: Documentary Project and Photo Book, and in 2017 a contest for photographers aged 18 to 26 – Young Poland.
All photographs that make it to the finals are presented in a post-competition exhibition.
