piotr krzyżowski
Himalayan climber, GOPR rescuer and lawyer.
The only man in the world to conquer Lhotse and Mount Everest, climbing alone and without the use of supplemental oxygen from cylinders.
Conqueror of seven eight-thousand-meter peaks. Winner of the Taternik award named after Jerzy Kukuczka and KOLOSY
On May 21-23, 2024, Piotr Krzyzowski became the only person in the world to conquer Lhotse (8516 m) and Mt. Everest (8848 m), climbing alone and without the use of supplemental oxygen from cylinders. He accomplished this in less than 48 hours, traversing the passage of these mountains without descending below Camp 4. To date, no one in the history of Himalayan climbing has accomplished this in such style.
Along with reaching the highest camp of Lhotse and descending from Everest, Piotr Krzyzowski spent a total of four nights in and around the death zone, which is also a remarkable event in terms of endurance.
Currently, Piotr Krzyzowski has seven conquered eight-thousand-meter peaks to his credit. He conquered all of them in his own fast style, without oxygen cylinder support and without the support of Sherpas: 2021 – Gasherbrum II, 2022 – Broad Peak, 2022 – K2 (he climbed both mountains, Broad Peak and K2, in just nine days), 2023 – Nanga Parbat, 2023 – Gasherbrum I, 2024 – Lhotse and Mt. Everest (he stood on both peaks less than 48 hours apart).
Peter developed his climbing skills by climbing peaks in the Tatras, Alps, Caucasus, Pamir and Tenshan. In the winter of 2019, he and his partner M. Hatala accomplished a historic feat – they were the first Poles to stand in winter on the summit of Khan Tengri (7010 m), the highest peak in Kazakhstan and the second-highest in Tienshan. For this achievement they received the Taternik Award named after Jerzy Kukuczka for the best high-altitude crossing in 2019, and for climbing Broad Peak and K2 just nine days apart, they received a distinction from the KOLOSY award jury.
